Tailoring
Techniques
This course is designed to help students develop the necessary skills to make any bespoke garment. We work closely with a complete beginner with no previous hand or machine sewing skills and teaching them everything they need to know to attempt one of our making courses.
Beginning with the proper use of the needle and thimble, the student will learn each hand-stitch used when making either men’s or women’s wear garments. A thorough explanation is given on the proper use of the industrial sewing machine for both straight stitch and overlocking.
Ideal for Levels 1 & 2
Beginners to Novices
Pattern Drafting
for Bespoke Menswear
Pattern Drafting for Bespoke Menswear is a great place to start your sartorial journey.
No matter how well a garment is made, if the patterns aren’t cut correctly and an appropriate fit isn’t achieved, fine stitching will not make up for its shortcomings.
In this course, you will learn everything you need to know to venture into the bespoke tailoring trade confident of success.
Ideal for all levels
Waistcoat making, the savile row style
There are of course many ways to make a waistcoat, but only one is handcraft. The HTA uses the method which is most traditional when facecloths (thick felt like fabric) were used in its construction.
The foreparts are almost completely made by hand. The only machine sewn stitches are in the dart and welt pockets, and just like any handcraft garment, the waistcoat is hand finished with top stitching and buttonholes.
Ideal for Levels 2 & 3
Novices to Competent
Men's
bespoke trouser making
Bespoke trouser making is the garment for a skilled machiner. Often the focus of tailoring is honed in on hand sewing skills, overlooking the skilled artisan that can operate an industrial sewing machine.
There is a technique to using such a machine which must be learnt and mastered.

Savile Row
Coat
Making
Coat making is by far the most satisfying art in handcraft tailoring. It requires the most skills and combination of techniques to create a satisfactory outcome.
Handmade should never be used as an excuse, but rather as a mark of hard work and quality in every stitch.
