Trouser skeleton baste fitting (help)

Trouser skeleton baste

in The Art of Fitting ...

Good afternoon, waist 39 seat 41 inside leg 32.5 scale 20.5 This is my first attempt making trousers. They feel baggy and the knee line is 4 inches lower than my knee joint. Can I just move the baste stitches up 4 inches? Or move the knee line up on the draft? I think I need to re-cut to a smaller waist size. Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Hi Paul, All round a decent effort. They are quite long, hard to see from the pics, maybe 2". Once you get the length right, that should help clean up the rest of the leg. The shrinking of the trousers is very important for the fit. Its amazing how much cloth can be removed from under the seat and the back of the tighs with a hot iron. Well over an inch can be removed from here. My advice is to shorten the hem and get it another good going over with the iron. Before posting some more pics. The knee position does seem low. It is an approximate location on the draft. If you feel it needs to be raised, I don't see the harm in doing it. Regards, Rory
