Striped Trouser Pattern Layout

Hi people - no linen at the fabric shop today so I bought a roll end of chalk stripe - and now I have a question.
Should I lay out as in the first photo with the stripe parallel to the center of the lower leg OR 2nd photo with the stripe parallel [ish] to the side seam? Center leg seems obvious but this will lead to severe VVVVVV’s at the side seam. so Im tempted to go for side seam... Advice?

just sew in an additional fork piece and keep it pants on grain
