Stripes and checks

If you want to get a jump start on it I can certainly guide you. The front dart is placed on the stripe and between the checks. Match the checks on the forepart and side-body below the pocket and then match that into the back. Or you could just place the check on the seat line. Match the check on the sleeve mid armhole round pt 25. Focus on the checks going across rather than going down. You can match both but you need loads of cloth and shed loads of time. Always place the centre back seam between the check/ stripe so you can match a full check/ stripe with the centre back of the top collar. Sew the darts and side-body seams before cutting the cross pockets to match the check/ stripe. The way I have shown how to cut the outbreast in the series is the system used for cutting checks. I.e match angle and add seams. Always ensure the checks are matching before cutting the pocket mouth. The swinging of the sleeves forward 5/8" is more important on stripes and checks than with plain cloths. Trying to match the hind-arm, forearm, armhole and swinging the sleeve will typically result in the scarificing of one of these typically the swinging. Your machine sewing skills will be put to the test. There are no tricks to machining checks just pure machine sewing skills. Holding the bottom layer of cloth while feeding the top. Have a seam ripper/ bodkin on hand. Never put a check or stripe on the edge of the facing as it can be hard to keep straight and have them run out the same on both sides. Aways be careful not to distort the check/ stripe when canvassing off. Checks and stripes are no fun at all.
