Cut, lay and inlays
This is the optimal lay for a coat on a cloth length of two yards. It works well for coat sizes up to a 42“ chest. Coat sizes over a 42“ will need more cloth added to the length which will widen the lay, pulling the patterns further apart. Sizes over a 47-48 will need a significant change to the lay in order to maximise the cloth.
