When to use silk thread and when to use cotton for hand work?
The list of extras Nicoie (Dugdale's) sent me included 700m of Gutterman Silk Thread and 500m of Tre Cerchi cotton thread, along with 5000m of white basting thread. I assume the silk is for hand work only and the cotton can be used for either hand or machine sewing.
For hand work (other than basting), do we use silk unless specifically directed to use cotton?
