    Threads

    Hi all,

    Just about to start sewing in the darts on my coat. My threads arrived from Dugdales and I presume the Tre Cerchi 040 100% cotton is used for machine sewing although the colour is pretty off from the grey cloth that was in the pack. The thread is much more of a green toned grey.

    I also ordered the 100% silk thread from Gutermann but I have received one that says Gutermann Mara 70 100% Polyester Col. 701 on it so I presume this isn't the right one. Again, not really the right colour. I've contacted Dugdales so will see what they say but was just wondering whether anyone else had this problem and been sent slightly off shades?

    Thanks

    Hi Heather,

    I am not surprised, actually. I had a chat with Nicole from Dugdales yesterday, as I wanted to know how big the chances would be, that I'd get the same cloth twice (Once for my jacket - and now for my trousers as well). She told me, they do not really keep track of the cloth they send with each kit, so chances of getting the same cloth again is quite unlikely. This will cause issues with the threads too, I guess. Either they put in the same thread for each and every kit - without knowing the cloth. Or they aren't keeping track of the threads they're putting in either.

    @David C reported similar issues here: https://www.handcrafttailor.com/forum/main/comment/60254b713a679700179d6738

    I suppose it's either get a price worthy kit, but accept certain trade offs - or pay the full price.

    Hi Jeroen,

    That's interesting to know.

    I've used the cotton thread to machine sew the seams as I believe that's the one that's meant to be used even though the colour is not exact.

    I'm hoping they will be able to send me the silk thread I was meant to receive though as that will be needed for the coat.

    That's a shame. I was wanting to know what the specific fabric I received in the kit was as I am making this coat as part of a research project for my degree and I am meant to be comparing different fabrics used in suits.
